HD DVD Assistance for Web-enabled Features
The features of HD DVD discs made available through the Internet (a.k.a. Web-enabled features) are not created or provided by the DVD Forum, and the DVD Forum is not responsible for their functionality or continued availability. Even if the HD DVD player is properly connected and the disc and server are working properly, some Web-enabled features may not operate properly due to Internet congestion or the quality of your Internet service.
The following guide is meant to assist HD DVD disc owners in accessing the Web-enabled features of their HD DVD discs.
I. ENSURE THE PLAYER HAS THE LATEST FIRMWARE OR SOFTWARE
It is possible your HD DVD disc was manufactured after your HD DVD disc player. To ensure the best possible viewing experience, your HD DVD disc player may need a firmware or software update. Please consult your hardware manufacturer's website for the latest firmware or software version and, if an upgrade is available, it is suggested that you follow the installation instructions.
II. ENSURE YOUR PLAYER IS CONFIGURED PROPERLY
To enjoy the Web-enabled features on your HD DVD disc, please make sure that your player's Internet connection is properly set up. Please follow all of the steps below:
- Use your player's Ethernet port to connect to the Internet.
- Using the player's SETUP menu, make sure the DHCP and DNS settings are both set to ON.
- Make sure the player's date and time are set correctly. There are two ways to do this:
- Using the player's SETUP menu (not to be confused with the SETTINGS menu on the actual disc) manually set the player's date and time.
OR - Within the player's SETUP menu, set the Network Time Protocol (NTP) setting to ON.
NOTE: this setting may use a different label, such as "Network Time Server" or "Automatic Time Synchronization."
- Using the player's SETUP menu (not to be confused with the SETTINGS menu on the actual disc) manually set the player's date and time.
Updating Your Firmware
Your HD DVD player is on the cutting edge of high-definition technology. With mandatory support for networking, every HD DVD player can take advantage of the Internet for player firmware updates, making the process quick and easy. Check out the HD DVD manufacturer's manual or contact them personally for instructions on receiving and installing the latest firmware updates.
